No, Peter Jackson is not involved with Amazon’s Lord of the Rings show

Remember when The Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson said he wasn’t involved with Amazon’s wildly expensive Lord of the Ring’s TV show, but then turned around and said he was? It was a confusing time.

Happily, Jackson clarified his position at New York Comic Con in an interview with Comicbook.com. “I’m kind of looking forward to it,” he said of Amazon’s show. “I was a guy who didn’t get to see The Lord of the Rings like everybody else because I had to make it, so I’m looking forward to seeing somebody else’s take on the Tolkien world.”

And if this isn’t his take on it, it’s someone else’s, meaning he isn’t involved. Case closed…probably.

Jackson also said he’s not particularly protective of the franchise. I guess after directing six mega-budget movies in that world, you’ve done what you can do.

Shepherding Amazon’s series are up-and-comers JD Payne and Patrick McKay, who released a touchy-feely statement after getting the gig:

"The rich world that J.R.R. Tolkien created is filled with majesty and heart, wisdom and complexity. We are absolutely thrilled to be partnering with Amazon to bring it to life anew. We feel like Frodo, setting out from the Shire, with a great responsibility in our care — it is the beginning of the adventure of a lifetime."

We’re still not entirely sure what the show will be about, but the rumor is that it will revolve around the adventures of a young Aragorn.

As for Jackson, he’s moved on to other properties. His new movie, the sprawling Mortal Engines, is a steampunk fantasy where London, now a giant movable city, prowls the world looking for scarce resources. It’s based on the first book in author  Philip Reeve’s series.

Mortal Engines hits theaters on December 14. We have no idea when Amazon’s Lord of the Rings show will premiere.
