Stranger Things is casting marching band members for season 3
By Dan Selcke
Next to Game of Thrones, Stranger Things may be the most anticipated show of 2019. Netflix’s supernatural drama/’80s pastiche/coming-of-age story returns for a third season next summer, but at the moment, it’s still shooting, mostly in the Atlanta era. And if you happen to live around there, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has good news for you: the show is casting!
Specifically, Stranger Things is looking for former African-American band members between 18 and 30. You have to bring your own instrument and have actual marching band experience. (But for one key aspect, I actually check all of these boxes. If only I lived 700 miles closer…)
The show is also looking for a “1980s Taller Male” and a “1980s Nerdy Male/Female” — no era-inappropriate haircuts allowed — as well as “Military Types.” Pay is $75 for eight hours, which is…well, at least you’ll be on TV.
But the all-black 20-something marching band is the most interesting part of this to me. How do they play into the story? Maybe it’s a university marching band? Are they marching in a Fourth of July parade; the cast members have mentioned that the third season is set during the summer. And during that parade, does an eldritch horror from the beyond rise out of the street and add its unholy cacophony to the brass arrangement of “Beat It” the band is playing? So many questions.
