Watch the new teaser for The Last Kingdom season 3!

In 2019, there will be Game of Thrones season 8. Before that, there will be The Last Kingdom season 3, the latest chapter in another sprawling medieval tale about warring families based on an as-yet-unfinished book series…albeit without dragons or zombies. The Last Kingdom, set in ancient Britain as the Saxon natives defend their lands from the invading Vikings, follows Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Alexander Dreymon), a Saxon-born warrior raised by Vikings. Can he bridge the gap between the two warring factions? Well, that’s what you watch the show to find out, isn’t it?

The Last Kingdom has been humming along for a few years now, and while it’s never gotten the attention of Game of Thrones, it’s very much worth watching. Today, Netflix dropped a teaser trailer for the next 10 episodes. Check it out:

Last we saw Uhtred, he was headed north to spend time with his Danish brother Ragnar (Tobias Santelmann), who’s expected to have an expanded role in season 3. The trailer makes the third season look plenty exciting. We still don’t know exactly when it’ll drop, but at least Netflix has confirmed that it’s “coming soon,” which we’re taking to mean before the end of the year. Anytime you want to give a firm date, Netflix, we’re paying attention.
