A Song of Ice and Fire illustrator says he’s finished a cover for a new George R.R. Martin book
By Dan Selcke
Enrique Jiménez Corominas is an artist and illustrator known, among other things, for creating the covers for the Spanish editions of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels, like this kickin’ cover for A Dance with Dragons:
A Dance with Dragons also happens to be the last novel published in the Song of Ice and Fire series, all the way back in 2011. Fans continue to eagerly await the next book, The Winds of Winter, which has been slow in coming, to say the least. But now, perhaps not knowing the pandemonium he could cause, Corominas has sent out the following tweet:
Roughly translated, it reads: “This stays between us, but I just finished a cover for a book by George R.R. Martin.”
Oh, boy. You can’t do this to us, Enrique. Is the Song of Ice and Fire illustrator saying that he finished the cover for a new A Song of Ice and Fire book? But maybe we’re getting ahead of ourselves. After all, Martin writes more than just A Song of Ice and Fire. The first volume of Fire and Blood, his history of the Targaryen dynasty, comes out next month. Maybe that’s what Corominas was talking about.
Then came the follow-up tweet:
Roughly translated: “It’s not for Fire and Blood.” You’re killing me, Enrique.
Look, there are still lots of other things this could be talking about. There could be a new book in Martin’s Wild Cards anthology series coming out…although Corominas has never done any art for a Wild Cards book. Maybe this time…
No, I can’t. Not again. ASOAIF fans have had their hopes raised and dashed too many times before to get excited over something like this.
But also…get…hype…? You decide.
