The Last Kingdom season 3 gets a release date and snazzy new poster!

Netflix finally announced a release date for The Last Kingdom season 3, on Monday, and it’s closer than you might think. For those of you unaware, The Last Kingdom is an adaptation of author Bernard Cornwell’s The Saxon Stories series of novels (11 in total, so far), and the story follows the main character, Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Alexander Dreymon), a Saxon-born warrior raised by Vikings.

I told you the poster was snazzy. Anyway, that’s Uhtred on the field of battle with King Alfred (David Dawson) looking down on the entire scene. Also of note, Uhtred seems to be charging toward the Saxon army, with the Vikings behind him. Does that mean season 3 will see this come to pass? Who knows? But when last we saw Uhtred in season 2, he was heading north to be with his Danish brother Ragnar (Tobias Santelmann), whose role in season 3 has been expanded from the previous two.

Seasons 1 and 2 of The Last Kingdom both had eight episodes a piece, but season 3 will consist of 10, so it looks like Netflix is ramping up its own medieval drama to help prepare us all for the eighth and final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Well, now I’ve gone and made us all think about the end of Thrones, and we’re all sad again. Sorry.

Season three is expected to see some new faces, as well.

From left to right: Ola Rapace will play Bloodhair, Thea Sofie Loch Naess will play Skade, Timothy Innes will play Edward. The Last Kingdom season 3 will hit Netflix on November 19.
