An Avengers 4 SPOILER reveals a new path for a long-running character

2019 is shaping up to be a pretty big year for entertainment. At some point, Game of Thrones will return to HBO for its eighth and final season, and in May, we’ll get to see Avengers 4. The two don’t have much in common, excepting that one cast member they share, but people are beyond eager to see both.

And as with Game of Thrones, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is vulnerable to leaks. A pretty big one came to light yesterday. Beware of SPOILER, after the snap:

Okay, the news: Uncanny Comic Quest uploaded to its Instagram a photo of MCU standby Gwyneth Paltrow, who’s played Tony Stark’s girlfriend Pepper Potts ever since the first Iron Man movie way back in 2008. But in this photo, Pepper has a very different look:

Paltrow appears to be wearing a variation of an Iron Man suit. To be specific, it’s the Iron Man armor Mark 1616, better known to comic book fans as the armor worn by the superhero Rescue. Rescue first appeared in the comics in Invincible Iron Man vol. 2 issue #10, “World’s Most Wanted Part 3: No Future.” In that story, Pepper Potts stumbles onto the Mark 1616 armor in her Stark Industries office. Tony Stark created the suit and hid it there some time ago, intending that Pepper would wear it one day.

Pepper uses the suit to help with disaster relief, becoming a hero in her own right. Apparently, the armor has little to no offensive firepower, with its primary functions being search and rescue.

If this is, in fact, the Rescue armor, I can see Pepper finding the suit in much the same way she did in the comics, but in Avengers 4, she’ll probably use it to help Earth while Iron Man himself is stranded on the planet Titan, Thanos’ destroyed homeworld. With Thanos having snapped away half of Earth’s population, there will surely be some disasters that need addressing. Who knows, maybe Rescue can even keep Captain America alive? Probably not.

With filming for Avengers 4 having wrapped a couple weeks back, little nuggets of news like this will have to keep us satiated until May 19, when the film hits theaters. But what do you think? Will Pepper Potts find and use the Rescue armor to help protect the Earth in the aftermath of the Snapture? Or maybe she’ll fly to Titan and retrieve Iron Man herself?
