Check out this Stranger Things companion book

If you’re a fan of Netflix’s Stranger Things, you may be in dull pain right about now. It’s been a year since new episodes of the show have been released, with a third season not due out until the summer of 2019. To help pass the time, Penguin Random House is publishing a 224-page companion book to the first two seasons: Stranger Things: Worlds Turned Upside Down: The Official Behind-the-Scenes Companion.

That is a very long title. Anyway, Syfy Wire got an advance copy. The book, written by author Gina McIntyre, includes “geeky trivia, cultural artifacts, pop culture references, early screenplay drafts, Netflix pitches, costume sketches, and interesting maps of Hawkins and the Upside Down.” Take a look:

Ah, so when you get to the chapters about the Upside Down, you have to actually turn the book upside down. They thought of everything.

As you can see, the book is designed to look like it’s already undergone wear and tear, like some scuffed-up old novel you’d find in the back of the libraries, back when libraries were a thing. It’s another fun touch.

McIntyre also wrote companion books to Solo: A Star Wars Story, Ready Player One and The Shape of Water, so this is kind of her thing. “The idea behind the book was to take readers inside the world of Stranger Things — looking at everything from how Matt and Ross Duffer first became interested in filmmaking and their inspirations for the series, up through the production of the first two seasons and its explosion into pop culture,” she said. “What was so interesting about the writing process was discovering just how much there was to dig into in terms of the 1980s ephemera, the special effects and production design, the music.”

"It also became abundantly clear why Stranger Things has come to mean so much to so many people. It’s absolutely the kind of show that has something to offer to almost anyone. It’s scary. It’s funny. It’s suspenseful. It’s emotional. Depending on your age, it’s incredibly nostalgic. Ultimately, though, I think it really is the relationships among the characters that carry the most resonance and weight."

The book is being sold in hardcover for $26.94, audiobook for $24.50, and Ebook for $14.99. It’s jam-packed with content, including a sneak preview for season 3!
