Josh Whitehouse cast in lead role in Game of Thrones prequel
By Corey Smith
Things are moving fast for HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel. After it was confirmed yesterday that Naomi Watts had been cast in the prequel, Deadline is now reporting that British actor Josh Whitehouse will be playing a lead role in the ensemble cast. Perhaps best known for his role as Hugh Armitage on Poldark, Whitehouse also has roles in the upcoming remake of Valley Girl and in The Happy Worker, from executive producer and very strange person David Lynch.
The untitled prequel show is set thousands of years before the current series. According to HBO, “the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.
A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin prefers the title “The Long Night,” although HBO has yet to officially adopt that moniker. Just yesterday, Martin teased that showrunner Jane Goldman and her team are “neck deep in casting, and I expect some more names will be announced soon.” Dude was right.
We don’t have a character description for Whitehouse’s character. We can see him playing a Northerner, but am I crazy to say he has a bit of a Greyjoy look to him?
What does everyone else think? Who could Whitehouse play? It’s exciting times!
