Ser Jorah Mormont: A seasoned knight who would swear his Kingsguard vows in front of a weirwood tree and the Old Gods of the North

Jorah Mormont’s invitation onto Jon Snow’s Kingsguard wouldn’t be for Dany’s benefit alone. Since season 1, members of House Mormont have always been sticking up for Jon. When Jon saved Jorah’s father, Lord Commander Jeor Mormont, from a wight attack at Castle Black, the Old Bear gave Jon his Valyrian steel sword, Longclaw. That gift saved Jon in many a fight, and has killed two White Walkers to date. When Jon and Sansa were attempting to rally support from the Northern Houses to help retake Winterfell from the Boltons, Lyanna Mormont promised them all the help she could spare. And when it came time to sort through the aftermath of the Bolton defeat, Lyanna was the first one to stand up and declare Jon her King in the North. Hell, Jon even used a Mormont to defend himself against Ramsay Bolton’s arrows. Helping Jon Snow is basically a Mormont family tradition at this point.

All that said, Jorah was forced to flee Westeros years ago because Ned Stark was going to punish him for selling slaves, but what better way to redeem himself in the eyes of his family than by dedicating himself to the protection of the man his father chose as a protege?

And yes, having Jorah on the Kingsguard would be very good for Daenerys. Jorah’s family may make a habit of helping Jon Snow, but he’ll always be dedicated to his Khaleesi first and foremost. Making Jorah the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard could be a good political move; most of the people on here have closer ties to Jon, but the leader will have Daenerys’ interests close at heart.

Who do you think Jon Snow would name to his Kingsguard, should he sit the Iron Throne when it’s all said and done? Let’s discuss below!
