Westworld: Thandie Newton heads to LA for Liyana screening

Thandie Newton is looking elegant and classy at the special screening of Liyana!
Thandie Newton is a force to be reckoned with, and everything she does has an allure and magic to it unlike anything else. Her latest project, Liyana, on which she serves as an executive producer, has already made a name for itself on a worldwide platform and snagged a number of awards in the process.
This past Thursday Thandie Newton went to Los Angeles for a special screening of Liyana where she was dazzling in a yellow patterned dress (seriously, how amazing does she look?!). The screening was held at the Landmark Theatre where Newton was joined by the film’s art director, Shof Coker, and directors Aaron and Amanda Kopp.
Liyana tells the story of five orphaned children in Swaziland and follows the central character Liyana as she embarks on a quest to save her twin brothers. The most intriguing aspect of the movie is the use of 3D characters against a 2D backdrop, and the beautiful use of animation on a level we haven’t quite seen before.
Thandie Newton has a personal connection to the film as her mother was from Zimbabwe and she lost many family members to AIDS, a disease that in 2017 about 27% of people living in Swaziland had. The movie is also personal for director Aaron Kopp who grew up in Swaziland.
Across the film festival circuit, Liyana has already won 28 jury and audience awards and continues to make an impact across the world. If you’re interested in watching the film, click here for screening information–and who knows, you might get to see Thandie Newton during Q and A sessions!
