The Last Kingdom, a gritty medieval drama on Netflix, is one of the best shows no one is watching. Here are 25 reasons to tune in.
With season 3 of The Last Kingdom just around the corner (November 19), we thought it would be fun to take a look at some of the characters who make Netflix’s historical fiction show so fun and unique. The era is late 9th century, pre-medieval England, during a time when the indigenous Saxons and invading Danes (Vikings) are battling for control of territory. There’s a lot of room for larger-than-life personalities, and The Last Kingdom has plenty.
Like Game of Thrones, The Last Kingdom (based on The Saxon Stories series by Bernard Cornwell) excels in building complex, often contradictory characters who amaze and engage. Also like Game of Thrones, it can be a lot to keep track of. If you’re unsure how some of these characters are related to each other, this list may help you out.
Whether we love ’em, hate ’em or don’t know how we feel about ’em, we’re definitely psyched to see them back in action (“gather the fyrd!”) again very soon. Is your favorite on our list?
(SPOILERS: The Last Kingdom kills off a lot of characters, so be warned!)
