David Harbour wraps filming on Stranger Things season 3 with mysterious photo
Actor David Harbour (Sheriff Jim Hopper) has announced via Instagram that he, at least, has wrapped filming on Stranger Things season 3! In the photo, Harbour is wearing a hat from a local business in Hawkins, Indiana — Gary’s Plumbing & Heating — and rocking a glorious mustache.
Harbour is teasing fans pretty mercilessly with that caption and those hashtags.
"Wrapped. Everyone say ‘goodbye mustache.’ If you need any info on what’s good in Hawkins while I’m away, give Gary a call. He can’t keep his damn mouth shut. #spoilerswithoutcontext"
“SpoilersWithoutContext”? Well, be a buddy and give us the context then.
Some of the other hashtags are interesting as well, particularly “#fletch” and “speilbergeatyourheartout.” It’s no secret that large swaths of Strangers Things draw inspiration from Steven Spielberg movies like E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I mean, that bike chase in season 1 was damn near copyright infringement. We’ve also heard that the third season in particular was influenced by Fletch, the 1985 Chevy Chase movie about a smooth-talking journalist.

It looks like riddles are the name of the game when it comes to Stranger Things season 3. Fans have decoded a hidden message buried in the pages of the laboriously titled Stranger Things: Worlds Turned Upside Down: The Official Behind-the-Scenes Companion, on store shelves now. Select pages from the book contain dots and dashes that, when interpreted, spell out the following secret message in Morse code:
"“the week is longthe silver cat feedswhen blue and yellow meetin the westa trip to china sounds niceif you tread lightly”"
What does it mean? We have no idea, although Reddit has a lot of theories. It’s dependable like that.
Back to Harbour, he’s teased a season of personal development for Sheriff Hopper. “I think we’ll start to see him take more risks with these new languages of intimacy and vulnerability and maybe we’ll start to see that he has needs that he hasn’t expressed before,” he said. “That’s exciting to watch him open up in that way. Of course, he’s going to flail and be horrible at it too, which is always fun as well.”
Intimacy, vulnerability, opening up…might we finally get a romance between Hopper and Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) in season 3?
Star Finn Wolfhard (Mike) also made it sound like love is is going to be in the air come season 3. “[I]t’s set in 1985, in the summer. It’s the summer of love — that’s all I can say, really.” I mean, when one of the important new locations is a mall, how can there not be romance?
Stranger Things hasn’t released new episodes since October of last year, but it’s still the top streaming show around, per Parrot Analytics. The new episodes will finally come out next summer.
