Prepare yourselves, Game of Thrones fans: HBO has begun its marketing push for the final season, and it’s gonna be big. The network already revealed the season 8 premiere month. Now, it’s pushing the hashtag #ForTheThrone and releasing clips and posters reminding us what various characters have done…for the throne.
Every battle.

Every betrayal.
Every risk.
Every fight.
Every sacrifice.
Every death.

We start with Daenerys Targaryen, who ate a damn horse heart for power. We’re setting the bar high right out of the gate.
“Not a Queen, a Khaleesi.” Good times.

Khaleesi got two posters. I guess when you’ve got as many titles as her, one won’t do.

Ned Stark wanted to reserve the throne for another rather than take it for himself. He still lost his head for it, though:
Spread Ned’s character poster around to friends who are in too good a mood:

As long as we’re talking about dead Starks, let’s remember the time Robb and Catelyn Stark’s quest to keep dominion over the North ended in a spectacular, heartrending fashion at the Red Wedding:

Time passes, and weddings go from red to purple. Joffrey wasn’t on the throne for that long, all things considered, but it was still longer than we could stand:
Once more with feeling: good times.

Like Ned, Tyrion wants the throne for someone other than himself. And he sure as tell didn’t approve of his father being the power behind it.
“Lord Tywin Lannister did not, in the end, shit gold.”

Also in line for the throne: the Night King, who slaughtered thousands at Hardhome so he could have meat for his army:
Come at me, bro:

“If they get through, everyone dies.” Funny you should say that, because soon enough:
With the Wall no longer an obstacle and Viserion as his new mount, the Night King is closer to seizing power than ever.
Cersei Lannister, meanwhile, has endured horrible suffering on her way to the throne. HBO didn’t post a clip of her walk of shame, perhaps because the image is enough:

Jon Snow has never sought power, but people keep putting him in positions of authority…and then killing him. Happily, Melisandre and company were on hand to set him back on his path:

Winning the Battle of the Bastards was a more successful moment in Jon’s rise to power, even if it sucked at the time:

Arya, too, has never sought power for herself, but if anyone with that ambition can harness her very particular set of skills, they’ll be nigh-unstoppable:
The North, as ever, remembers.

Finally, let’s all remember that Hodor died

…so Bran could come into his powers as the Three-Eyed Raven.

Make it count, Bran.
