Iconic Westworld set survives California wildfire
The Woosley Fire has now burned through 96,314 acres in Los Angeles and Ventura counties in California. The fire has brought down 435 structures, with two civilian casualties reported thus far. (The Camp Fire, burning in Butte County, has been far deadlier.)
Among other places, the Woosley Fire has damaged Paramount Ranch, where HBO filmed several scenes for its sci-fi hit Westworld. You may remember it as the town and church where Dolores and the Man in Black have their final confrontation at the end of season 1:
Although few could get near enough to check, the going assumption seemed to be that the set was destroyed. HBO put out a statement about it:
"Westworld is not currently in production, and as the area has been evacuated, we do not yet know the extent of the damage to any structures remaining there. Most importantly, our thoughts go out to all those affected by these horrible fires."
However, now that the Woolsey Fire has moved on, it’s been revealed that, miraculously, the iconic white church is one of the few set structures left standing:
Seeing as the characters have now moved beyond the confines of Westworld itself, we probably won’t see the church in its upcoming third season, but still, it’s a small piece of good news in the midst of this terrible crisis.

Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul is on board, and now That Hashtag Show reports that Antonio Banderas — star of such movies as Desperado, The Mask of Zorro, and Spy Kids — could be joining the cast as a villain.
The site doesn’t have any substantial details on Banderas’ potential role, but says it resembles the character Javier Bardem played in the James Bond flick Skyfall. That was a fun one, if you recall: Bardem played Raoul Silva, an MI6 agent-turned-sexually open-minded cyberterrorist. It’s as good a place as any to start.
Westworld season 3 has yet to begin production, so don’t expect the new season to hit until late 2019 at the earliest.
