Westworld: The foreshadowed moment you may have missed
By Ariba Bhuvad
Westworld theories are not without speculation and wonder, but could this Robert Ford moment been foreshadowing the future?
Westworld has a tendency to throw fans down a rabbit hole that is often hard to get out of. Some seem plausible, while some don’t make sense, while others are simply fun to ponder about if even they’re absolutely ridiculous. Most recently, a Redditor pointed out a moment from the season 1 finale of Westworld and it may or may not have foreshadowed Ford’s intentions.
During his speech, Ford made the following statement, “Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin never died. They simply became music. So, I hope you will enjoy this last piece…very much.” Hmmm, does anyone else see the irony in this?
Of course, one couldn’t predict anything from that statement while watching the season 1 finale live, but now that we are two seasons in and aware of what happens in season 2, it’s interesting to go back and reflect on what Ford said. If you haven’t seen the second season of Westworld, then you may want to turn away now so as to avoid spoilers.
In the sophomore season, we were wondering if/when we would see Ford return, and as the story progressed, it was revealed that he had programmed himself into the code. And the connection to music comes as no surprise because it is a very symbolic aspect of the series.
So what could have Ford been implying when he made that comment? Well, considering how season 2 went it could be a couple of things. Either it was just a fleeting comment, but rarely anything in Westworld is just a coincidence or he was implying that when music is written, it is forever, and never goes away.
It’s a type of code that stays behind even when the person who wrote it has passed on, so by saying that those composers never died but just became music sounds very metaphorical to what becomes of Ford by the second season.
A widely speculated theory for season 2 was that Ford would return as a host and many took the above statement to elude towards that, but Westworld did end up surprising a lot of us with what actually happened.
