HBO casting a pair of twins for Game of Thrones prequel series

The final season of Game of Thrones airs in April. But a couple months before that, HBO is filming a pilot for a Game of Thrones prequel series et during the Age of Heroes, thousands of years before the events of the main show. It’s already signed up some top-notch talent to fill at least two lead roles, including Naomi Watts and Poldark star Josh Whitehouse. Now, fansite Watchers on the Wall brings us info on a few new roles HBO is looking to cast.

First up, showrunner Jane Goldman and her team are looking for a pair of twins, aged 23-29, to play sisters. I suppose it wouldn’t be a Game of Thrones spinoff without a couple of twins creeping the place up. Hopefully these two will be better-adjusted than Cersei and Jaime.

Next, HBO is looking for a “genuine Scandinavian, Eastern European or German actor” to play a man in his ’70s. As Watchers points out, on Game of Thrones, actors of that description have often played wildlings, although there are plentiful exceptions, with Pilou Asbæk (Euron Greyjoy) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) being two of the most prominent.

There’s also the matter of wildlings only existing after the Wall is built. During the Age of Heroes, before that happened, they were just…people, descendants of the First Men. So whoever this character is, he can’t be a wildling per se, but perhaps he’s a distant ancestor.

We don’t know if these characters are lead roles, recurring players or perhaps just around for the pilot. We should learn more as February draws nearer.
