Chain-smoking mall Santa Nick Nolte joins cast of Disney’s The Mandalorian
Okay, who let Nick Nolte into Disney’s wretched hive of scum and villainy? According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Mulholland Falls and Thin Red Line star has joined Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal and Deadpool villain Gina Carano on the Star Wars show, which will air exclusively on Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+, when it goes live late next year.
There are no details yet on who or what Nolte will play. Will he be an ordinary human-looking person, get covered in makeup and play an alien, wear a helmet the whole time like the star? In any case, production on the show is in full swing. The Mandalorian has an impressive slate of directors lined up for its 10-episode first season, including Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi. Iron Man director Jon Favreau is serving as showrunner.
There’s quite a bit of news swirling in the Star Wars space recently. Fansite Making Star Wars, which has been very reliable in the past, is reporting that Carl Weathers, Apollo Creed himself, will also appear in The Mandalorian. This is turning out to be quite the cast.
A less reliable but still fun casting rumor comes from Redditor u/Temiriblagg1, who claims to have been an extra on the set of Star Wars: Episode IX. Possible SPOILERS incoming.
Okay, so according to a Reddit thread, which we stress is not reliable, actor Naomi Ackie — who is, in fact, in the movie — is playing the daughter of Lando Calrissian. Allegedly, her character’s name is Veranada (Vera) Calrissian, and she’s part of a group of Resistance fighters who capture General Hux (Domnhall Gleeson).
Maybe it’s true, maybe it’s not. My question is why everyone in Star Wars has to be related. The galaxy is huge; there are people besides Skywalkers and Solos out there. I’m not putting much stock in this rumor.
