Brie Larson beats up an old lady in new Captain Marvel trailer

Disney has released an all-new trailer for Captain Marvel, the first female-led superhero movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, headlined by Academy Award-winner Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, a former United States Air Force pilot turned “Noble Warrior-Hero.” Check it out:

“So, Skrulls are the bad guys?” asks Samuel L. Jackson’s digitally de-aged Nick Fury. “And you’re a Kree, a race of noble warriors?”

“Heroes,” Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel responds. “Noble warrior heroes.” Then she proceeds to beat the ever-loving sh*t out of an old lady on a train. The old lady, as it turns out, is a Skrull. Skrulls can take human form, and apparently Captain Marvel can sniff them out.

Fun fact: Annette Bening is in this movie. She plays a Kree who rescued Carol Danvers and made her part Kree. Funner fact: The alternate title for this film is “Regarding Carol.”

The cat at the end of the trailer is cute, right? Its name is Goose. In the comics, Danvers has a cat named Chewie, but the name has been changed for the film. I wonder if this is Disney stepping in and keeping the Marvel movies separate from the Star Wars movies. Also, maybe it’s a Top Gun reference? Because of the fighter pilot angle? And because the movie is set in the ’90s?

Captain Marvel also stars:

  • Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, a Skrull who has infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D.
  • Djimon Hounsou as Korath, a Kree warrior. You may remember he played the same character in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
  • Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, also a Kree warrior. Ronan was the main antagonist from the first Guardians movie. It’s a reunion!
  • Jude Law as Mar-Vell, Captain Marvel’s commander.
  • Clark Gregg reprises his role as Phil Coulson. Gotta love that Marvel continuity.

Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8, 2019.
