Well arselings, we have some good news about the continued adventures of Uhtred son of Uhtred. According to a new report from Parrot Analytics, a lot of people are tuning to watch Uhtred navigate the fine line between Saxon and Dane in medieval England. The Last Kingdom had 22.6 million “Demand Expressions” over the week of Thanksgiving, which basically means 22.6 million people were talking about it favorably online. You can’t buy good word of mouth. That means The Last Kingdom beat out heavy streaming hitters like House of Cards and Orange Is The New Black.

Here’re the demand expressions for the top 10 digital original shows over the heavily trafficked Thanksgiving break:
- Narcos (Netflix): 36,493,678
- Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (Netflix): 34,342,653
- Stranger Things (Netflix): 31,396,719
- Marvel’s Daredevil (Netflix): 29,965,918
- The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu): 25,023,577
- The Last Kingdom (Netflix): 22,682,182
- House of Cards (Netflix):19,615,266
- Orange Is The New Black ((Netflix): 19,161,628
- 13 Reason Why (Netflix): 19,159,801
- The Haunting of Hill House (Netflix): 17,922,287
Now, let’s qualify that demand expressions aren’t the same thing as actual viewing numbers; only Netflix has those, and it’s infamous for keeping them close to the chest. But this should give you an idea of who’s watching what.
The Last Kingdom jumped up five spots from the week before, which bodes well for the series’ renewal prospects, and for how much money Netflix can pump into the show. The third season was the most impressive yet, but there’s still room to grow.
On the flip side, even with a new season hot off the presses (which was fantastic, by the way) the series failed to beat fellow Netflix shows Narcos Mexico, The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina, Stranger Things and Daredevil in demand expressions. Daredevil is a particularly interesting case, since it looks like it did pretty well, but Netflix cancelled it last week, although politics between Netflix and Disney could have had something to do with that.
Ultimately, this is good news for The Last Kingdom, a series we’ve grown to like more and more the more we watch it.
