Game of Thrones touring exhibition to open in Belfast

For years now, the Game of Thrones touring exhibition has given fans around the world the chance to get up close and personal with the props, sets and costumes from the series. They’ll get another opportunity when it opens in Belfast, Northern Ireland in April at the the Titanic Exhibition Centre.

Belfast’s Titanic Exhibition Centre should ring a bell for longtime Game of Thrones fans. It’s very near Titanic Studios, where a great deal of the show’s interiors are filmed. Likewise, it’s not a coincidence that the exhibition is opening on April 12. The final season of the show premieres in April, and the exhibitors are no doubt trying to capitalize on public interest. Plus, being so close to Titanic Studios, they can just raid the place for props. It’s not like HBO is going to need them anymore.

The Game of Thrones touring exhibition will stay open through September 1. “Given the unique and central role that Northern Ireland has played in the life and legacy of the show, and we are thrilled that we are bringing Game Of Thrones: The Touring Exhibition to Belfast,” said HBO vice president Jeff Peters. “We’re so happy to invite our fans in Northern Ireland, the rest of the UK and the Republic of Ireland to join us in the Titanic Quarter in Belfast to immerse themselves in the world of Game Of Thrones.

Or if props and stuff aren’t your thing, Tourism Ireland has announced that it’s taking its beautiful Game of Thrones Tapestry out of storage in 2019:

If you’ve forgotten, the Game of Thrones Tapestry depicts every episode of the show in gorgeous hand-woven detail:

I was hoping Tourism Ireland would add more panels for the final six episodes of the series, and it looks like I’l get my wish. And it’s significant that the tapestry will go up in Bayeux, since the Game of Thrones Tapestry is itself based on the Bayeux Tapestry, an 11th century work that depicts the historical events leading up to the Norman Conquest of England.
