Westworld: Thandie Newton snags Critics Choice Award nomination

Thandie Newton has been nominated for a Critics Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress–for her role as Maeve on Westworld.

There is one Westworld actress that should be celebrating her award nomination streak, and that’s Thandie Newton. Newton has been nominated for a much-deserved Critics Choice award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for playing Maeve.

This news comes shortly after her Golden Globe nomination and we can’t forget that she won the Emmy for Best Supporting Actress earlier this year. This is Newton’s third nomination thus far, and we so very proud of her.

In the running, alongside Newton, are The Handmaid’s Tale’s Yvonne Strahovski, The Americans’ Holly Taylor, Better Call Saul’s Rhea Seehorn, Ozark’s Julia Garner, and Jack Ryan’s Dina Shihabi. This is a group of very talented women playing equally fantastic roles! It’s a fierce competition and we hope Newton’s talent and effort stand out enough to allow her to take home the gold.

Unfortunately, Newton’s nomination is the only nomination that Westworld received at the Critics Choice Awards. This means that none of the other talented figures of Westworld are being considered for an award.

Jeffrey Wright, Evan Rachel Wood, Zahn McClarnon, Ed Harris, and Anthony Hopkins are not nominated in any of the categories. Thus leaving them high and dry despite this season being one where they all brought forth an amazing body of dramatic work.

As frustrating as the award snubs are, Newton winning the Critics Choice Award will likely feel like a win for Westworld as a whole. I imagine the whole team is rooting her on and will see this win (should it come to be) as a collective win for Westworld.

Tune in to see if Newton wins the award at the 24th Critics Choice Awards on January 13th, 2019, at 7 PM EST on The CW!
