A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin and Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) have been nominated as inductees into the New Jersey Hall of Fame (yes, there’s such a thing as the New Jersey Hall of Fame). Martin, who noted his nomination with surprise on Not a Blog, was born in Bayonne, New Jersey in 1948, while Dinklage was born in Morristown, New Jersey in 1969.

The two are nominated in separate categories. Martin is in Arts & Letters alongside nominees like Peter Benchley (the guy who wrote Jaws) and Fran Lebowitz. Dinklage is nominated in the Performing Arts category with people like Jason Alexander, Whoopi Goldberg, Ed Harris, Chris Rock and Anne Hathaway. Talented people are coming out of New Jersey.

There’s some circularity happening here. Dinklage probably wouldn’t be well-known enough to make the list of nominees had David Benioff and Dan Weiss not convinced Martin to let them adapt A Song of Ice and Fire for TV. In conclusion, Martin and Dinklage should be nominated as a unit.

Just kidding. If you’d like to vote, click here. The website says that “thousands of New Jerseyans” will participate, but there don’t seem to be many guards against out-of-town-people weighing in, soooo…do what you feel is best.

The polls will close by the end of December, and honorees formally recognized in a red carpet ceremony on the first Sunday in May. The race is on.
