Charles Dance played Tywin Lannister for the first four seasons of Game of Thrones, and to this day, we’re unable to think of anyone who can give an implacable stare of disapproval better than him. Now, We Got This Covered reports that Dance has joined the cast of Netflix’s The Crown, a lavish period drama all about the life and times of Queen Elizabeth II, England’s current reigning monarch.

The Crown is full of magnificently dressed members of the upper classes negotiating icy silences. Dance will fit right in.

This news comes after Dance was spotted on the set of The Crown’s third season, which will be set some years after its second. Reportedly, he’s stepping into the role of Lord Mountbatten, played in his younger (but still middle-aged) incarnation by Greg Wise. A cousin of the queen’s, Lord Mountbatten was known to have a mentor-mentee relationship with his grand-nephew Prince Charles, who will be played by Josh O’Connor. Look for them to share some screen time.
