A Song of Dan and Josh: A look back at A Game of Thrones
By Dan Selcke
It’s the final episode of A Song of Dan and Josh for 2018. Over the past year and change, we’ve read through and analyzed every single chapter from A Game of Thrones, the first book in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. Today, we reflect.
Some of the topics we hit include:
- The whole conceit of this series is that I’ve read the books multiple times but Josh has only ever seen the show. Was there anything in A Game of Thrones that surprised him?
- How successful is Game of Thrones at translating Martin’s prose to the screen, particularly his more expressionistic dalliances?
- How comfortable is A Game of Thrones as a fantasy book? Is it a political thriller with fantastical elements or the other way around?
- Now that we have our feet wet, what as we looking forward to in A Clash of Kings?
We did it!
