Game of Thrones intersects with politics on a fairly regular basis, but we rarely see something akin to what happened in November, when President Donald Trump tweeted out a poster that put a twist on a popular Game of Thrones catchphrase:
Trump was referring here to sanctions he had recently reimposed on Iran. Apart from the policy angle, it’s just weird to something from pop culture cross so boldly (and officially) with a major political figure. HBO, for the record, didn’t enjoy the White House’s spin on the House Stark words:
We haven’t seen much of the poster since then…until today, when Reuters White House correspondent Jeff Mason tweeted out a bunch of images from inside the cabinet room during a press briefing:
There’s President Trump, talking about extending the current government shutdown and the importance of building his wall, mere inches away from his Game of Thrones-themed poster. Life is surreal sometimes.
Back when the poster dropped, I wondered if it was something Trump requested or if someone on his staff mocked it up and he just tweeted it out. I guess he likes it, if he was sitting next to it for the full hour-and-45-minute briefing.

If you’re interested, Mason breaks down the whole meeting point by point on his Twitter account. Obviously there were a lot of important topics under discussion, although I really wish someone would have asked about the poster.
