Carrie Fisher’s Episode IX appearance will look “like it was shot yesterday”

Star Wars icon Carrie Fisher, the legend behind Princess Leia, died in 2016, but she will still appear in this year’s Star Wars: Episode IX, the last movie in the Star Wars sequel trilogy that kicked off with The Force Awakens back in 2015. But while Fisher had completed filming her scenes for 2017’s The Last Jedi prior to her death, filming on Episode IX only began this past August. Fans may worry that means Princess Leia won’t get her final bow, but according to Todd Fisher, Carrie’s brother, they needn’t fear.

"There’s a lot of minutes of footage. I don’t mean just outtakes. This is unused, new content that could be woven into the storyline. That’s what’s going to give everybody such a great kick. It’s going to look like it was meant to be. Like it was shot yesterday."

That certainly sounds comforting.

Todd Fisher was mum on specifics, although he did say that Carrie’s appearance would amount to more than just a simple cameo. “We’re not allowed to talk about the details of anything. But we’re thrilled at what’s been done.” Hopefully Leia’s final appearance doesn’t involve her doing anything as silly as the infamous space angel sequence from The Last Jedi.

“he was able to be such a shining light,” Todd said of his sister, “and was able to create such beautiful words and great art in every discipline she put her mind or hand to. I love it when people stand up and tell me how much they admired her and how much inspiration she was to them.”

After Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) perished in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi respectively, Leia is the last member of the original trio left alive, although Hamill could return as Luke in Episode IX as some sort of Force ghost. But we know this will be Leia’s last appearance. December 20 can’t come fast enough.
