HBO revealing Game of Thrones season 8 premiere date this Sunday
By Dan Selcke
Back in November, HBO revealed that the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones would premiere in April. But April what? The network wouldn’t say, probably knowing that Game of Thrones fans — desperate for info after a whole year without any new episodes — would be willing to accept information about the premiere month and continue to wait. They were right.
But with April barreling towards us, HBO is going to get more specific. Check out a new tweet from the network’s official Twitter account:
The Game of Thrones Twitter account also got in on the fun:
The third season of True Detective, which stars Mahershala Ali in the central role, premieres this Sunday, January 13 at 9:00 p.m. EST. Is HBO revealing the premiere date for Game of Thrones season 8 at that time as a way to get more people to watch True Detective? Definitely. Will it work? Also definitely.

Happily, after a shaky season 2, the third season of True Detective is looking pretty solid. We’ll visit Ali’s character at three different times in his life, giving the actor a chance to show off his range. The show took a few years off in between seasons 2 and 3, which hopefully gave Nic Pizzolatto enough space to get the creative juices flowing again.
Naturally, we’ll let you know the season 8 premiere date the second HBO reveals it. It’s all happening, people.
