Watch a beautiful new animated teaser for Game of Thrones season 8

With less than 90 days to go until the final season of Game of Thrones, new promos seem to be popping up everywhere. First we had that clip of Daenerys and Sansa meeting at Winterfell, then it was the official teaser and release date, and now it appears we have an animated teaser courtesy of special effects house Mirari and Company, which has created a bunch of stuff for HBO in the past, including this lovely Christmas advert for HBO Asia. Watch below!

Stunning stuff. And dare we say that some of the woven characters look better than the real world variety? Jon Snow in particular looks pretty fearsome, certainly more so than that terrible statue in the latest teaser. And while there’s no new footage here, a reminder of where each of the character’s come from is nice as we head into the endgame. Goodness knows a lot has happened.

As for when we’ll see a full-on proper trailer, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have promised us that one is coming. Today, A Song of Ice and Fire George R.R. Martin joined in on his Not a Blog, calling attention to the new teaser and promising “a longer trailer in the works.” In the meantime, enjoy this tapestry!
