Last month, Supernatural fans were elated over the news that Jeffrey Dean Morgan would return for the series’ 300th episode. For those who have not seen the series, his character, John Winchester, father of series protagonists Sam and Dean Winchester, dies a couple of times. His neck is snapped, and then he’s resurrected, and then dies again after making a deal to save his son’s life. Death is no biggee on this show. Everyone is Jon Snow.

But how exactly will John Winchester return this time? Showrunner Andrew Dabb spoke to Entertainment Weekly all about it:

"Our guys are put in a position where they essentially can have a wish granted. They’re actually expecting something else, but [John’s return] comes from a place of want by Dean. The need for closure is really what brings John back into their lives."

Morgan isn’t the only one returning for the 300th episode. We’ll also see the return of angel Zachariah, played by Kurt Fuller. It’s hard to believe that Supernatural is 14 seasons in and John Winchester was last seen in the season 2 finale. For hardcore fans, this has been a long time coming.

Ackles explained what a reunion with his father will mean for Dean: “For Dean, the whole episode is a dream that he doesn’t want to wake up from. But he knows he has to.”

Sounds like fans are in for all the feels when Supernatural airs its 300th episode on Thursday, Feb 7 at 8:00 p.m. EST.
