The last few years have brought us a series of live-action remakes of Disney classics, including The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast. And the trend continue will continue this year with remakes of both Aladdin and The Lion King on tap. It’s a dream come true for fans of a certain age to see their childhood movies come to life like this, although some remain skeptical that the House of Mouse will retain what made those films special.

In any case, Disney shows no sign of slowing down, withVariety reporting that the company is now working on a live-action remake of 1996’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Most don’t consider that one a classic on par with something like The Lion King, so it looks like Disney is dipping into their less famous films now.

Don’t get me wrong, I love The Hunchback of Notre Dame, but I’m not sure how many people grew up watching it on repeat like many watched The Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast. Everyone knows at least one song from The Lion King. Is it the same with Hunchback?

However, there is one thing to look forward to: Josh Gad playing the role of the Hunchback Quasimodo. Gad will also serve as a producer alongside Tony Award-winner David Henry Hwang (M. Butterfly), who will write the script. We don’t have many other details on the project yet, but you have to wonder make other movies Disney is thinking of giving the live-action treatment? The Rescuers Down UnderTarzanFrozen? At this point, anything is game. And at least according to me, so far Disney hasn’t disappointed us.
