The second season of Marvel’s The Punisher has dropped on Netflix, and as a fan of the series’ ultra-violent tone, I am happy to review each episode in the name of science. Season 1 saw Jon Bernthal (Frank Castle/The Punisher) exact bloody revenge on those responsible for his family’s death, culminating in beating one time friend Billy Russo (Ben Barnes) to a pulp. Russo is set to return this season as the villainous Jigsaw, but more on that later.
Season two will also see the return of Frank’s allies: Homeland Security agent Dinah Madani (Amber Rose Revah), Curtis Hoyle (Jason R. Moore) and Daredevil’s Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll). In addition to Jigsaw, the season 2 trailer gives us a glimpse of religious fundamentalist John Pilgrim (Josh Stewart), who isn’t preaching the virtues of peace and love.
After taking down Russo in season 1, Frank appeared to set aside the mantle of the Punisher, but Frank being Frank, it doesn’t take long for him to get into trouble. In season 2, that trouble takes the form of a young woman (Giorgia Whigham) who is in over her head with the wrong people. Whatever adventures Frank gets up, we’re guaranteed copious amounts of blood, violence and bullets. So lock and load and follow along as we review the season!
