Naomi Watts teases HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel: “It’s a fantastic world”
Academy Award-nominated actress Naomi Watts is in the great game now. With Game of Thrones about to air its eighth and final season, fans are starting to look to HBO’s prequel series, which is set thousands of years before the current timeline, during the Age of Heroes. Speaking with Variety at the Sundance Film Festival, Watts got a little taste of what being a part of this franchise will be like when she was asked if she could describe the plot of the new show. “Do you really think I’m going to tell you that?” she asked, laughing. “Are you trying to catch me off guard?”
Good try, Variety. Still, Watts did open up a little about how excited she is to be part of the project:
"It’s a fantastic world, isn’t it? I think there’s so many brilliant elements to that series that make it very exciting, very appealing. I don’t want to dig myself into a big hole here. All I want to say is it’s very exciting…I’ll say that again and again and again — and nothing else."
She’s already dodging questions like an old pro. She’ll fit right in. Eventually, we’ll see if the rest of the cast is as adept:
So far, all we know about Watts’ character is that she’s “a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret,” which could mean just about anything. Jane Goldman, the screenwriter behind movies like X-Men: First Class and Kick-Ass, is serving as showrunner. The show is currently staffing up and is set to shoot the pilot this spring.

Variety had one more question: now that she’s part of the Game of Thrones franchise, does Watts know how season 8 ends? “Stop, please!” she replied. “I can’t. I just can’t.” We’ll see if that front holds up between now and April 14, when season 8 premieres on HBO.
