What is Dragons and Things? A Pathfinder LIVE Play on Twitch
Do you like Dragons? Do you also like Things?
This show has both! Dragons and Things is LIVE on Fridays at 6pm Pacific on Twitch!
Each week, 5 heroes gather at the Krag Kave to stand against the deadly machinations of Evil GM Jimjam’s Pathfinder campaign. In this epic Actual-Play Live Show, every character’s fate hinges on the roll of the 20 sided die as they hunt mythical beasts, seek lost treasure, and wield powerful magic to save the world.
Tell me more about these “Things”
What is Dragons and Things? What’s a d20? What’s a Krag? What is happening here?! Well, it’s quite simple, really…
Dragons and Things is an actual play live stream of a tabletop Pathfinder campaign run by James Rodehaver. James Rodehaver is a strong, handsome, intelligent storyteller with such descriptive skills that his words paint images so vivid, you would swear that you were on hallucinogens as he weaves his tales of high fantasy adventure.
James Rodehaver is also the one writing this if that was unclear…
Anyway, back to the basics. If you are unfamiliar with Pathfinder, it’s a tabletop role playing game. As the Game Master (GM), I tell a story of danger, adventure, and intrigue for the players. Each of the players take the role of a mighty hero in that story, and they react to the scenes I set for them.
We resolve all of their decisions by rolling dice. High numbers signal success and there will be much cheering from the players. Low numbers herald great failure, and that means cheering from me, for I am an evil GM who delights in the suffering of the so-called heroes seeking to thwart my designs.
The story we tell is continuous from week to week, with each episode picking up where the last left off. The whole story arc is called a campaign, which is much like a season of a show like Game of Thrones.
The characters grow more powerful over time; gaining new skills, powers, and treasures as they go on quests set before them, and as they grow more powerful so too do the challenges they face.
“How will I know what’s happening when the show has been going on for so long?” you may ask.
Don’t you worry one little bit about that, our episodes are all archived on YouTube, and more recent episodes can be found on our Twitch Channel!
If you want to start alllllll the way back at the beginning you can head over to Dragons and Stuff.
“Dragons and Stuff? I thought the show was called Dragons and Things!” might be the next thing you’re worried about, but listen, that’s not important right now. There’s a whole other article on the history of the show and what happened and yadda yadda.
Just know that if you go to Dragons and Stuff, find Episode 1, and get to watching, you’ll get to see all the adventures we’ve had since we started doing this.
When you run through all those episodes, you’ll have to catch us on Twitch where you can catch all our most recent adventures up to the present.
Dragons and Things isn’t just about playing Pathfinder. Part of the reason we bother to stream live is so we can talk to you. Not just you specifically; more of a general you meaning our audience. But it could specifically be you if we read one of your messages on air and respond to it.
Our episodes all have live chat, so it’s like you’re watching each episode with all of our fans. We also give away prizes each episode, so if you read all that stuff about Pathfinder and thought “I wanna play a collaborative storytelling game and go on epic adventures of the mind with my friends,” you should definitely join us ASAP so you have a chance to win Pathfinder goodies to get you started.
This is getting long, so I’m going to let you get to watching. If you still don’t quite get what’s going on but you’re kind of into it, join us on Friday night for a live stream. Our chat community will welcome you with open arms and help you get up to speed way faster than reading long articles about rolling dice will.
Until then, I’m GM Jimjam, and that’s all the words I’m going to type right now.
