Showrunner assures fans that Netflix’s Witchers series is not for kids

Netflix is hard at work adapting Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher books for TV, and showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich has been uncharacteristically open about sharing details of the production with fans. She was at it again the other day, teasing that the eight-episode first season will be an adults-only affair:

I’m guessing Ben is her kid?

Anyway, the news that the Witcher isn’t for the five-and-under crowd should come as no surprise. The books feature plenty of scenes where lead character Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) disembowls monsters, not to mention all the sex he has with beautiful women, occasionally on top of a stuffed unicorn.

Still, I’m with the set who appreciate Hissrich’s willingness to get candid with the behind-the-scenes anecdotes. Can you imagine if the Game of Thrones showrunners did that? HBO would fire them, or kill them, or both.

There’s no release date for The Witcher as yet, but Netflix is reportedly so happy with how things are going it’s already considering ordering more seasons. It’ll surely be along sometime this year. In the meantime, fans are mocking up their own posters to fill the void:

"The Witcher (Netflix) – Fan Poster by Koke Nunez from witcher"
"Fan Poster for The Witcher !! from netflixwitcher"

Will this show have what it takes to go toe-to-toe with Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series, Showtimes Kingkiller Chronicles show, Disney’s The Mandalorian and the rest of the genre tentpoles that will spring up in the wake of the Game of Thrones series finale? Stay tuned.
