The fifth season of History’s Vikings has been an up, down and all-around kind of affair, with high points, low points and weird points. One of the weirdest came when Viking leader Ivar the Boneless, son of (former) lead character Ragnar Lothbrok, declared himself a god. That story should come to a head tonight in “Ragnarok,” the season 5 finale, where Ivar will face off against his brother Bjorn, among others, in the Battle of Kattegatt. TV Guide got ahold of a clip from tonight’s episodes, where Ivar entreats the people of Kattegatt to remain loyal to him during the fight, or else.
He kinda reminds me of Ramsay Bolton, but if he was on bath salts.

Meanwhile, another of Ivar’s enemies (he has a lot of those), Lagertha, is still in Wessex. Entertainment Tonight has a clip of her expositing about what she got up to during her recent disappearance. “I almost died,” she says. “I was reborn…The only thing that I have learned is that life is about suffering. There’s no escape from it. That’s the truth.” Cheery.
Will Ivar emerge victorious at the Battle of Kattegatt? Will Lagertha lighten up a little? Will Floki get out from under that pile of rocks? All of these questions will be answered, probably, in tonight’s Vikings season finale, airing on History at 8:00 CST. Now that it’s confirmed that the show will end with its upcoming sixth season, all bets are well and truly off.
