It’s a zombie kind of day. Gather round for news of the undead!
Let’s start with Zombieland, the 2009 movie about a geeky college kid (Jesse Eisenberg) who takes a roadtrip throughout the zombie-infested southwestern United States with a trio of people he meets along the way, Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin). (And Eisenberg’s name is Columbus; they’re doing a thing.) Now, there’s a sequel on the way: Zombieland: Double Tap.
Producers also debuted the new poster, and capitalizing into the recent “10-year challenge” meme while they were at it:
Does Woody Harrenson somehow look younger?
If you’re confused about the title, “Double Tap” refers to Columbus’ second rule for fighting zombies: always shoot an approaching zombie twice, to make sure it doesn’t get back up.
On top of the old cast members coming back, Double Tap will feature a bunch of new characters, which means more cities for names. This time we’ll have Zoey Deutch as Madison, Avan Jogia as Berkeley, and Rosario Dawson as Nevada.

Speaking of zombies, The Hollywood Reporter has it that Zack Snyder — the man behind everything from 300 to Watchmen to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice — is returning to movies following a hiatus necessitated by a family tragedy to making horror thriller Army of the Dead for Netflix. Snyder’s first film was the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead, so this is him returning to his roots:
Netflix is throwing close to $90 million at this movie, so it’s the real deal. Per THR, “The adventure is set amid a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, during which a man assembles a group of mercenaries to take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.” So it’s Dawn of the Dead meets Ocean’s 11. I can get behind that.
For his part, Snyder is super-pumped. “There are no handcuffs on me at all with this one,” he said. “I thought this was a good palate cleanser to really dig in with both hands and make something fun and epic and crazy and bonkers in the best possible way.”
"I love to honor canon and the works of art, but this is the opportunity to find a purely joyful way to express myself through a genre. It will be the most kick-ass, self-aware — but not in a wink-to-the-camera way — balls-to-the-wall zombie freakshow that anyone has ever seen. No one’s ever let me completely loose [like this]."
You aren’t fooling me, Zack Snyder. I’ve seen Sucker Punch.
Netflix is so into zombies right now, you guys. Over the weekend, it debuted the first season of Kingdom, a zombie period piece set in Korea during the medieval Joseon period. Take a look:
The zombies in this one are almost more like vampires, since they’re inactive during the day but deadly at night. The show does a great job of introducing them gradually and cranking up the creepy factor. It’s available to watch now, whether subtitled or dubbed into English.
