Game of Thrones meets Bud Light in Super Bowl commercial
By Dan Selcke
Like Game of Thrones? Like beer? Then we have the commercial for you. Roll in!
Is it a Bud Light commercial? Is it an ad for the final season of Game of Thrones? Who cares? It aired during the Super Bowl so everybody saw it.
I particularly like the one dude screaming like Ellaria Sand when the Mountain (and yes, that really is actor Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson) crushes the Bud Knight’s head, a clear reference to when he did the same thing to Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones season 4, minus the shot of the blood spewing from Oberyn’s eye sockets and the shot of his head looking like a watermelon someone smashed with a mallet. Probably a good call to cut those bits.

HBO also released an extended version online, stacked with additional Game of Thrones Easter eggs:
So far as I can call, these additions include the Bud Knight handing out more beers to his squires, the trumpeters playing “The Rains of Castamere” ahead of the joust, and more shots of people burning during the dragon attack.
Also worth noting is that at least part of the commercial was directed by David Nutter, the man behind the Red Wedding, the recent Crypts of Winterfell teaser, and three episodes of season 8. Over 25 Game of Thrones crew members worked on it as well. Fun!
