A Song of Dan and Josh: Bran I (A Clash of Kings)

A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin has said that Bran chapters are the hardest ones for him to write, and this one kind of proves why. Today on A Song of Dan and Josh, we dive into Bran I from A Clash of Kings. How is our paraplegic Prince of Winterfell doing since his dad died and most of his family went away.

As it ends up, not well. Bran is now the oldest Stark in Winterfell, meaning he has a lot of responsibility that would be hard for any 8-year-old to manage, let alone one still dealing with the loss of their legs. And on top of that, he has to deal with freaky visions and mystical wolf dreams. Can Martin sell his kid’s predicament when it’s so unlike anything most of his readers have faced? It worked better for Josh than it did for me. Watch our discussion:

What do you think? Are the Bran chapters your favorite, or are they the ones you read through to get to the Davos and Sansa and Tyrion bits?
