Sure, Hulu is open to reviving Marvel shows like Daredevil
By Dan Selcke
Not long ago, Netflix axed three of its high-profile superhero shows: Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. These shows were popular, particularly Daredevil, and while there’s a lot of speculation out there about what the hell happened, all we know for sure is that a lot of fans (and cast members) aren’t ready for these shows to end, and will follow them to another service if need be.
For a while, we’ve thought that Disney might have forced the cancellations so it could revive the shows on its own streaming service, Disney+, set to debut later this year. But now a new contender has emerged. Craig Erwich, senior vice president of originals for Hulu, told The Wrap he’d love to revive these shows on Netflix’s chief rival. “Marvel has a ton of titles we’d be interested in,” Erwich said. “It kind of just depends on when they’re ready, [and] who, most importantly, is going to be behind these things.”
"We’ve had a relationship with Marvel since ‘Runaways,’ we’re getting into business on these animated shows. I’m sure it will lead to — you know, business gets you business — we have a good creative relationship with them. That’s where opportunities tend to arise."
It’s true. While Netflix is getting out of the Marvel business, by choice or otherwise, Hulu is swimming in it. Just the other day, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Hulu was making four adult-oriented animated shows based on Marvel properties, albeit second-tier ones: M.O.D.O.K., about an egomaniacal supervillain with a demanding family (Patton Oswalt is executive producing that one); Hit-Monkey, about an assassin monkey; the Tigra & Dazzler Show, about a couple of Los Angeles-based superheros and their friends (Chelsea Handler is executive producing); and Howard the Duck, about a duck who thinks he’s people (Kevin Smith is executive producing). And then, eventually, characters from all four shows will team up in The Offenders, which seems like a deliberate swipe at Netflix’s own The Defenders, a show they can’t do anymore because three of the four main characters are cancelled. The corporate shade is real.

So why does Hulu get to play with Marvel properties and Netflix doesn’t? It might have something to do with Disney owning 60% of Hulu. Disney is probably more comfortable with the Marvel characters playing in its own backyard rather than down the street at Netflix’s house, because lord only knows what happens there.
