Doctor Who: Rose Tyler spin-off casting details revealed

Big Finish have revealed more details about their upcoming Rose Tyler spin-off series. Including the casting of characters who were previously exclusive to a Doctor Who novelization…

Following the Doctor Who spin-off’s announcement back in November, Big Finish have now revealed more details about Rose Tyler: The Dimension Cannon. Particularly, some new casting details.

We know already that Billie Piper will naturally return to the title role. We also know that Camille Coduri and Shaun Dingwall will return as Jackie and Pete Tyler, respectively. We’ll also see Mark Benton back as Clive, as well as Elli Garnett as Clive’s wife Caroline, both of whom we first saw in Rose.

Speaking of Rose, there’s going to be a little bit of a crossover from the novelizations to the the Big Finish audios with this range. Patrice Okereke, Mook Jayasundera, Odessa Smith and Roni Bandara, who were originally introduced in the novelization of Rose as the Bad Wolf gang, will be appearing in this series, in the last episode The Last Party on Earth. They’ll be played by Syrus Low, Waleed Akhtar, Elizabeth Ute and Amerjit Deu, respectively.

From one medium to another

More from Winter is Coming

These particular casting choices sound especially curious. The novelization of Rose stood out on its own terms, and the brand new additional characters in the Bad Wolf gang were a key reason for that. It’s nice to see these characters crossing from one medium to another, especially in a series that looks set to be a big tribute to the Russell T Davies era.

There are also details for other episodes of the series. Joe Jameson plays Rob and Julia Hills plays Margot Kinnear in the second episode of the series, The Flood.

Ghost Machines, the third episode, will feature Alistair Petrie as Wallace Richards, Claire Wyatt as Cee-Cee and Dan Starkey as the Machines.

From the looks of things, this is a spin-off that’s shaping up to be a good series. I’m looking forward to listening to it in September.
