Disney’s Loki series gets showrunner, synopsis
By Dan Selcke
Disney is launching its very own streaming service, Disney+, later this year, and it’s pulling out all the stops to make sure you plunk down a subscription fee. This includes mounting a series all about Marvel Cinematic Universe fan favorite Loki, with Tom Hiddleston returning to the role despite Loki, um, running into trouble in last year’s Avengers: Infinity War.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has a way around that. The show will reportedly feature trickster god Loki popping up throughout history and influencing events, which actually sounds like a lot of fun. Loki talks Brutus into stabbing Caesar? Loki kicks off the French revolution? Loki helps Al Gore invent the internet? You get the idea. He could be an evil Doctor Who, popping up everywhere and making things worse. I’d watch it.

Per THR, Disney has tapped screenwriter Michael Waldron to create the show, pen the pilot and executive produce the series. Waldron is a veteran of the Dan Harmon media empire, having worked on shows like HarmonQuest and Adult Swim favorite Rick and Morty, in addition to writing a sci-fi rom-com with the awesome title of The Worst Guy of All Time (and the Girl Who Came to Kill Him), which is in development now. It’s a promising start for a series revolving around one of the MCU’s best-known villains and smartasses.
