Sansa Stark will wear armor in Game of Thrones season 8

Sansa Stark has gone on a fascinating fashion journey during her time on Game of Thrones. Naturally, that’ll continue into the final season. “This is the first time I’ve had armor,” star Sophie Turner told Entertainment Weekly about her role in season 8. “We [had] the idea of it being very protective and she buttons herself up. I wanted her to have a bit of armor and be a bit more warrior like. She’s like the warrior of Winterfell.”

Note that we’re not talking about heavy plate armor like Brienne of Tarth would wear. Instead, this is “jet-black leather” made of thick protective material. We don’t expect Sansa to be in the thick of battle or anything, but with the White Walkers on the way, some precautions couldn’t hurt.

Although we have to wonder: if Sansa is getting her own armor, might she get a sword or some other type of weapon? Jon Snow did say in the season 7 premiere that everyone in the North — men and women — needed to learn how to defend themselves from what was coming, and if the Lady of Winterfell isn’t partaking in the defense of the North, then she isn’t leading by example.

This would quite a transformation for Sansa, wouldn’t it, if the girl who began the series in flowy dresses ended it in armor with blade in hand? I can’t wait to see how she looks decked out for war.

Game of Thrones season 8 makes its long-awaited premiere on April 14.
