Torchwood’s sixth series continues today with God Among Us: Part 2
By James Aggas
The eagerly anticipated second part of Torchwood: God Among Us, the official sixth series of the popular Doctor Who spin-off, is out now!
The sixth series of Torchwood got off to a strong start with part one of God Among Us last year. It resolved many major loose threads from series five (surprisingly quickly, I might add). In particular, it revealed exactly who had survived the events of Alien Among Us‘s finale and who hadn’t.
But, even more importantly, it kick-started the new arc for the series in a big way. The Sorvix, the alien threat from the previous series, are gone and no longer a problem. However, something else has arrived in Cardiff. Something far more powerful than the Sorvix. Worst of all, Torchwood has no idea it’s there…
The first four episodes of God Among Us were mainly focused on introducing God into the series. The next four? That’s what we can finally find out today, as the second part of God Among Us has finally been released.
Norton Folgate
More from Winter is Coming
- For All Mankind finally gives us information in Episode 405, “Goldilocks”
- Watch a stunning VFX breakdown of The Wheel of Time season 2
- Of course Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon) thinks Eve Best (Rhaenys Targaryen) should rule Westeros
- Confirmed: The Last of Us season 2 will air in 2025
- Final season of Star Trek: Discovery will have “a lot of action, a lot of adventure, a lot of fun”
The most exciting thing that leaps out about this box set is the appearance of Norton Folgate, who appeared in the cliffhanger ending to part one. For those of you who don’t know, Norton Folgate is one of the best characters ever created in the Torchwood universe.
Played by Samuel Barnett (who’s probably best known to sci-fi fans for playing the lead role in Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency,) Folgate initially comes off as delightfully quirky and fun. But don’t be fooled. Beneath his cheerful personality lies a very devious and dangerous mind, one who’s always working towards his own agenda.
So his appearance in series six is something I’m very excited about. His appearances in the monthly Torchwood audio range (what I like to call “solo adventures”, as these stories typically focus on just one Torchwood member at a time,) are fantastic, especially opposite Tom Price’s gloriously innocent Sergeant Andy.
But now, we get to hear him work with the new team. More importantly, we get to hear him against Yvonne Hartman, a woman who’s just as devious, dangerous and brilliant as Folgate is. This is going to be a lot of fun!
As revealed earlier, we’ve also got returning planes, body swaps and the end of the world to look forward to. And, of course, we’re sure to learn even more about “God” in this volume too. We’ll be listening to this one straight away, so expect a review from us on part two later this week!
