HBO has been slowly building buzz for its upcoming Watchmen series, from showrunner Damon Lindelof. We’ve had mysterious images of police officers wearing yellow masks, intriguing casting decisions, and HBO cheekily tweeting out the iconic smily face Alan Moore soaked in irony with his classic 1986 graphic novel.

Finally, HBO released a few snippets of footage when it previewed its 2019 slate of shows. The Game of Thrones season 8 footage may have gotten all the press, but this intrigued us too. Check it out:
If you look closely at the background behind the title card, it looks an awful lot like Gila Flats, the U.S. Government’s particle physics test facility where Dr. Jonathan Osterman became Doctor Manhattan. Might this be a clue that we’ll see Big Blue in the HBO series? If so, I hope they give him some pants.
Next, we see a hooded figure walking rapidly past a yellow-masked police officer. This character is slight of build and looks like they could be a woman, which leads me to believe this is…
…recent Academy Award-winner Regina King’s character, Angela Abraham. Why do I jump to such a conclusion? Because we actually see King wearing a hoodie in the next shot:
Finally, my favorite shot from this teaser is Jeremy Irons having a birthday party for one.
Rumor has it that Irons will be playing an older version of Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias. The whole series will take place a long while after the events of the original story.
Irons and King will be joined by Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson (rumored to play a character named Looking Glass), Louis Gossett Jr., Andrew Howard (as Red Scare), Adelaide Clemens, Jean Smart (confirmed as Agent Blake), Tom Mison (as Marcos Maez/Mime) and Sara Vickers (as Erika Manson/Marionette), among a very long list of other actors.
Watchmen will make its premiere at some point this year. Come on HBO, we need hard dates!
