Disney announces opening day for Galaxy’s Edge Star Wars theme park
By Dan Selcke
Attention, Star Wars fans: you can officially begin counting the days until you step into a real-life recreation of the cantina from the original movie, and the dock where the Millennium Falcon is parked, and probably a whole lot of other places from the films, because Disney announced the opening day for Galaxy’s Edge, its Star Wars theme park:
Real-life will not include that much CGI. Probably.

Technically, there are two opening days: Galaxy’s Edge opens on May 31 at Disneyland Park in California and on August 29 at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. According to Deadline, the original plan was to open the Disneyland version in June, but it was moved up due to “tremendous demand.” There’s only so much time between now and the premiere of Star Wars: Episode IX in December; gotta make that money while you can.
And these parks should make a lot of money. People love Star Wars with a passion near unrivaled by anything else in the pop culture space, and Disney is going the extra mile to make sure visitors are immersed in the worlds of Tatooine, Coruscant, Dagobah and all the rest. There won’t be any branded merchandise in the park, just Star Wars-themed stuff. So no Pepsi, but rather…Space Drink or something, I dunno. We’ll find out in a couple months!
