George Lucas is one of the most influential filmmakers on the planet, and we will never be able to express our gratitude for his creating Star Wars. And we’re not the only ones. Game of Thrones is famous for preserving the secrecy of its sets, but the production let Lucas and his wife Mellody Hobson visit during the filming of season 8. Because really, how are you going to say no?

Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth) dished about Lucas’ visit with RadioTimes, calling it “delightful.” We can’t help but wonder if this means that Lucas will have a cameo in season 8, but Cunningham assures us that it was limited to meeting with series creators and observing a day in the life of the production. “He could have [made a cameo], with the beard!” Cunningham opined. “That’s not a bad idea. We should have stuck him in.”

Of course, Lucas’ visit isn’t altogether surprising considering that Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and and Dan Weiss are set to helm a new Star Wars trilogy just as soon as they’re done tolling around Westeros. Maybe Lucas was imparting some advice. Whatever the case, we’re just jealous he got to visit the set and probably walk away with some top-secret information.

The series has made a huge impact around the world, as well as on the people who work on it, like Cunningham. And yet everyone on the cast seems to have remained remarkably humble and grounded. How did they pull that off? Cunningham has a theory:

"We can’t take in the size of it or the cultural impact that it has, because that’s just unprofessional. Because you start portraying what other people see of you: that you’re f***ing wonderful or something. That’s deeply unprofessional. Instead, you have to go down and complain about being called up – ‘It’s f***ing four o’clock that pick up in the morning, for f***’s sake! And I know we won’t do anything ’til 8!’ You have to be slightly cynical about it, just to keep your feet on the ground and do your job. But we’ve all been transformed for this. It’s opened doors for everyone."

Way to keep it real, Davos. Anyway, keep your eyes peeled during season 8 and maybe we’ll catch a glimpse of George Lucas lurking in the background.
