Before Game of Thrones, before LOST and The Expanse and whatever Amazon is cooking up, the works of Joss Whedon were ground zero for genre fandom. Buffy the Vampire SlayerAngelFirefly…fans loved these show with a passion. These shows laid the groundwork for the sci-fi and fantasy explosion we’re living through today, although they didn’t get as much notoriety. I swear, had Firefly debuted a decade later, Netflix or somebody probably would have saved it from cancellation.

But we’re also living in the age of reboots, and there’s always time for another 15 minutes in the spotlight. On a recent episode of The TalkAngel star David Boreanaz hinted that there’s something on the way:

“I love that character,” Boreanaz says. “So I will say there may be something coming up. I don’t want to give away a lot. But I can say it’s 20 years coming up this fall, and we may have something in the works.”

Boreanaz starred as the vampire Angel for three seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer before spinning off into his own show, which ran for five years. Having him come back to play the character again could be tricky, because Angel is immortal and Boreanaz has aged two decades, but maybe he’s talking about something different. Maybe it’s not a proper continuation but rather a cast reunion, or a reboot with new actors. After all, that’s what Fox is doing with Buffy.
