Ian McShane wonders how long Starz can “draw out” American Gods
By Dan Selcke
Ah, Ian McShane. He’s an excellent actor, appearing in everything from Deadwood to Game of Thrones to American Gods and killing it every time. But he’s a wild card of a public figure. Remember when he appeared in Game of Thrones season 6 and basically gave away that the Hound was coming back long before the show was ready? Or when called the show “only tits and dragons“?
God, I love him.

Anyway, he’s at it again, speaking to TV Line’s Mario Ausiello about American Gods, where he plays the powerful and perilous Mr. Wednesday, aka Odin, the Norse god of wisdom, poetry, war, death, divination and magic.
American Gods is based on a novel of the same name by Neil Gaiman. It’s in the middle of its second season and was recently renewed for a third. Gaiman’s book isn’t that long, and some fans (okay, me) have wondered if Starz is shooting itself in the foot by stretching the story out multiple seasons of TV when it really only needs the one. It ends up that McShane is thinking the same thing. “I’m wondering how long they can draw out the book,” he said. “Will it end with Season 3, or will there be a Season 4, before Shadow takes wing on his own?”
Once again, you gotta love Ian McShane. It makes perfect sense that people on the show would be thinking these things but you’re not supposed to actually say them…

Anyway, McShane also made like an actor and teases the rest of the season, saying that lead character Shadow (Ricky Whittle) “has two revelations that happen with him which will have to be solved in Season 3.” If you’ve read the book, you can probably guess what those revelations are. And if you haven’t, I recommend it; it’s pretty short, after all.
