Let’s overanalyze the new Game of Thrones season 8 promos
We’re two weeks away from the Game of Thrones season 8 premiere, and HBO has gifted us with two new promos. They mostly contain footage we already saw in the official season 8 trailer, but there are a few new scenes to talk about. Let’s put on our detective hats and see what we can see.

Twitter’s @wildtargaryen put the two promos together, so you can watch them back to back:
Let’s start with promo 1: Tyrion is speaking in the great hall of Winterfell, with Dany and Sansa sitting at a table behind him. “We must fight together now, or die.” He’s sounding like Jon.
Next, we have Jon and Dany in front of a fireplace. Dany’s going with a new single ponytail style:
Now here’s something interesting. The eagle-eyed sleuths at Reddit have identified this shot as taking place on Dragonstone:
"Yep, definitely Dragonstone from freefolk"
What could Jon and Dany be doing back there? Does the army of the living lose the Battle of Winterfell and retreat? Given that the White Walkers can’t swim, an island would make a good hiding place, although it won’t save them from Zombie Viserion.
Reddit also noted how much Daenerys is dressing like her brothers these days. It’s the shoulder pads:
"Looks like Dany is starting to dress even more like her Targaryen brothers. from freefolk"
Next, we have a shot of Beric lighting his sword in preparation for battle. The Hound watches him and winces, because fire.
Here’s a cool shot of the Unsullied locking their shields into place.
Jon swings his sword at someone or something.
This shot of Cersei turning around dramatically is new:
Moving into the second promo, we’ve got Arya and Jon speaking in Winterfell’s godswood! Be still, my beating heart.
Of course, the internet drew comparisons to the last time they were together in season 1:

Their reunion looks a little less warm. Well, they’ve both been through a lot.
Varys, Tyrion, and Davos look impressed by something flying overhead. Could it be Jon on a dragon? That makes sense to us; all three of these characters have seen a dragon before, so there’s no reason for them to look that dumbfounded when one flies overhead. (Varys especially looks like he’s trying to catch flies.) There must be something new in the air. And they don’t look terrified enough for it to be the Night King riding Zombie Viserion.
