Game of Thrones star calls the ending “sad-isfying”
By Dan Selcke
We’re four days (!) away from the premiere of the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones. If you weren’t hyped enough already, the stars are making the rounds on talk shows and such to make this final stretch unbearable.
Let’s start with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), who stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to talk about spoiler prevention, fan theories, and of course, the ending.
When Kimmel brought up the theory that Bran is the Night King, the audience actually applauded. That theory has reach.
Coster-Waldau has been beating the drum about the ending for a while. When he read the final scripts for the first time, he wrote showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss and told them “I can’t imagine a better way of ending the show.” And now he has a new work for it: “sad-isfying.” Take that how you will.
Coster-Waldau also stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show to talk about his ongoing charity work in Rwanda, as well as give his 30-second summary of Game of Thrones:
You gotta love his description of Jaime’s role in the show. Bran just needed a push, guys!
Coster-Waldau also talked to TV Line about Jaime’s intentions at the end of season 7, when he pledged to ride north and help the living, even if his sister/lover Cersei has other plans. “Seeing [the wight at the Dragonpit] was frightening,” Coster-Waldau said. “He believed it.”
"Even though he’s known as the most dishonorable man, he is a man of his word. The promise they made was very important, but it also was the right thing to do. He gave his word to his brother, who is the only person he truly trusts…Of course, together with Brienne."
Next up, Coster-Waldau and several other cast members describe their most memorable fan encounters to Variety:
Coster-Waldau helped a couple of Game of Thrones fans get married! Maisie Williams went to see the BTS movie with a random fan! These are good stories.
Williams and Turner also spoke to TV Line about Arya and Sansa’s season 8 journeys. It sounds like they’re not messing around. “Everyone’s a threat,” Williams said. “We’re done trusting people. We’re done with being pushed over. We finally managed to scrape our family back together somewhat, minus Jon.”
“We just have to protect that, whatever the cost,” Turner added.
- Turner: “There’s no more goddamn excuses. You’re in or you’re out. If your name ain’t Stark, you ain’t getting in.”
- Williams: “Yeah. We stand at Winterfell and we go, ‘What’s the password?’”
They were laughing when they said that stuff, by the way, but you know: jokes are only funny if they’re partly true.

Moving along, the same group of actors from before give advice to their season 1 and 2 characters on Good Morning, America:
Iain Glen’s advice to a young(er) Jorah Mormont is simple: “Don’t try and kiss her…” Agreed.
Speaking of Jorah, Glen talked to Fox News about his character’s years-long unrequited love for his boss, Daenerys Targaryen:
"I actually don’t think the love has been unrequited, I think it’s the sort of physical aspect to it that’s been unrequited. I think Jorah has got to a point where he feels very loved by Daenerys and has been forgiven, and that’s really what he was working toward since Season 5 is to get inside her inner circle again, which he’s achieved. So, I think he’s very happy commanding her troops, being the head of her army. And that’s been an aggrandizement that she’s kind of given to him and trusted to him. So I think he’s happy where he is. I think it’s a tender storyline."
Game of Thrones season 8 airs this Sunday, April 14.
